Throughout my childhood my father was involved in several charity bike rides. He cycled across America (named Ride For The Child), Australia, Canada and around the coast of Britain, raising over £52k for charity.

I didn’t really understand the magnitude of his achievements at the time but as I’ve matured it’s something I’m immensely proud of my father for.

The idea of me doing a similar ride crossed my mind whilst I was at university. However I wanted to wait until the time was right in both my career and studies. Now that I’m settled in my career, and my mother has made a full recovery from cancer, I feel I’m ready to (attempt to) follow in my father’s tracks and do my bit to help children in need.

I knew one of the biggest challenges would be for myself and the rest of the team to obtain a month off to complete the ride. One of my father’s Ride For The Child trips took place in America and if I really wanted to follow in his footsteps, there was no question of which country I would choose. Stein IAS, my current employer, has bases in six locations including San Francisco and New York, which has proved to be most convenient. I pitched the idea of cycling from one office to the other and they have been absolutely fantastic in their support, contributing towards the sponsorship and allowing me to take my annual leave in one go.

I was astounded at just how many charities there are and it made it extremely hard for me to choose two specific charities. The reason I’ve chosen Action on hearing loss and CLIC Sargent are down to past experiences. They support causes that I can really relate to, supporting children with cancer or deafness. You can read more about my chosen charities here.

I’m incredibly excited about the challenging year ahead and I will do my absolute best over the next year to help as many children with cancer or deafness. I really hope you can support me on my challenge.

Thank you
